All researchers who have studied face touching agree that it is a consequence of negative emotions. Westerners and many Europeans tend to touch the face with their hands whenever they are not telling the truth. Not applicable to Asians.
For religious reasons they do not touch their head but they increase the movement of their legs whenever they lie.
*Roots of hand to face maneuvers*
Whenever telling a lie, there is a habit of covering the mouth with the hands
It is usually seen in children. This trend is also seen in adults. (Figure 8). Lying increases nasal movements. As a result the nose is touched (Figure 9). By covering our eyes with our hands we don't have to see what we don't want to see or believe. The origin of that habit is the practice of rubbing the eyes (Figure 10). Ear pulling or rubbing (Figure 11) or head scratching (Figure 12) indicate that the person is in a state of uncertainty or does not believe what is being said.
